It is necessary to consider the potential for Tree Preservation Orders when planning any tree works, as there are a number of conservation areas and you can be liable for a large fine if you do not get the correct permission.
At TreeMendous we easily find out if your property is in a conservation area or if there are Tree Preservation Orders that may apply.
This process is carried out on every project, Free of charge before we send off any quotations to the customer.
Trees that are exempt from TPOs are those that are dead, dying, diseased or dangerous and fruit trees grown for the commercial production of fruit.
TPOs prohibit the cutting down, uprooting, pruning, crown lifting, reductions and wilful damage or wilful destruction of trees without consent.
A responsible, professional tree surgeons like TreeMendous will never be willing to ignore this legislation.
It is recommended that trees are worked on after Autumn and before Spring. This however is not true for all species so at TreeMendous, we would prefer to look at each tree individually and give you a recommendation for timing the necessary work.
Some examples of trees requiring work at other times are Cherry, Plum and related trees (Prunus species). These should be pruned soon after flowering to reduce the risk of bacterial infection.
Maple and Birch should not be pruned in the spring to avoid ‘bleeding’ (exuding sap), which although not considered damaging can be unsightly while Magnolia and Walnut should only be pruned in high summer.
Most common species of hedges can be pruned any time of the year but again at TreeMendous, we would confirm this after inspection and always consider the environmental impact in terms of nesting birds before commencing
Birds commonly nest between March and the end of July. If you want to avoid cutting down trees or hedges with nesting birds.
If any type of bird is nesting in a tree or hedge then it is legally protected so long as the nest is in use. This may prohibit certain types of tree pruning or removal until the nesting season is over. Removing dense hedges or substantially reducing them would be illegal, but annual tree trimming may be acceptable.
Cutting Down Trees with Bats? Many kinds of bats use trees to roost in, either for long or short periods of time. Bats are all protected and when carrying out works to a tree that is likely to contain bats, it may be necessary to it check first.
Occasionally trees can cause problems to nearby structures such as subsidence and other forms of structural damage.
If a tree grows very close (typically within 1.5m) of a lightly loaded wall or structure, then as it grows, the base of the stem or the large diameter roots very close to the trunk may exert pressure and cause it to collapse or lift.
If a house is founded upon a shrinkable clay soil, then trees may cause or add to movement damage because they draw water from the soil and cause it to dry out.
The proximity of trees is often taken into consideration when a house is insured or valued. This does not necessarily mean that a tree poses a threat, but unfortunately, trees are often blamed for any movement in a building.
If you have a tree that is close to a building or its foundations, it is always advisable to contact a member of TreeMendous to advise you.
Common signs of tree diseases include discoloured leaves, wilting, cankers, and visible fungal growth.
Pests may leave behind chewed leaves, holes in the bark, or webs.
If you notice any unusual changes in your tree’s appearance or health, it’s best to call a member of TreeMendous in for an inspection and diagnosis.
At TreeMendous, we employ and sub contract only the best and highly qualified.
When planning to use any tree surgery company, It is advisable to ask to see and check any tree surgeon insurance and qualifications that the tree surgeon holds.
Unfortunately, These are not legal requirements - as this is a largely unregulated industry and anyone can buy a chainsaw and call him or herself a tree surgeon.
However, employing an unqualified person can result in serious damage to your property and possibly even cause severe injury, or worse, to any persons in the working area.
A professional tree company like TreeMendous Mechanised Arboriculture will never be willing to ignore all of the legislations.
Tree surgery and operating machinery is a skilled and a very dangerous occupation, requiring extensive training and access to expensive specialist equipment.
Wrongly reduced trees can cause major problems in the future which may lead to additional expense and it is very easy to cause significant damage and injury without the proper training and knowledge.
